Okay, so it’s actually called the Apgar Lookout Trail in Glacier National Park… and though we hiked it a couple of times, we weren’t as crazy about it as the Lake McDonald trail.
First, though we’re not averse to dirt roads, they can be tricky in our big dually truck, especially when the road is narrow with few turnouts for passing other vehicles.
Second, though we like a good aerobic workout when we hike, it’s nice to have great scenery or the chance to see wildlife along the way, and we didn’t find this trail as much fun as the others we’ve done in Glacier.
Hiking to the Lookout and back is nearly a seven mile trek, and it’s uphill all the way. Ikes!
And when you start fast, you burnout fast, which is what Ellen did — putting herself out of the running for getting to the summit.
The trail wound through new-forest growth, making it easy to see hills both near…
So although it wasn’t as picturesque as our other hikes, it still gave us some great outdoor exercise!
