Have a Su? No, But I Can Point You to a Lake….

Lake Havasu City, Arizona, that is. Okay… so it was a stretch for a catchy title, and a little too long, but hey… can’t beat the price of admission, can you?

By November 2013, with snow topping the Spring Mountains, we knew it was time to scoot farther south. For no particular reason we landed in Lake Havasu City, and — as often happens — found there’s much more here than first meets the eye. Where else will you find a waterside park like this one?

And though this eatery looked tempting, it wasn’t open. Did that mean November was before high season (winter) or after high season (summer)?

In the water, among the Mallards and American Coots, paddled this bird I didn’t identify until much later: a Pied-Billed Grebe. Cool!

Of course, the London Bridge is Lake Havasu City’s claim to fame:

But we found two even better reasons to come back some day. The first is La Vita Dolce, an Italian restaurant…

…where we discovered their amazing Filet Mignon with Lobster Ravioli…

…topped off with their “Dolce Donut.” If you like funnel cake, you’ll love this. Same thing except in little pieces and served with whipped cream. MMMM!

We are not avid red meat eaters. The best filet mignon I’ve ever had was years ago at Chico Hot Springs resort (where a famous actor with a ranch nearby used to like to come and play the piano in the lobby) so for this one to register on my radar is especially notable.

And the other reason to return to Lake Havasu City — an even better reason? The answer to that next time!
