Rampin’ It Up in Nampa

This past June we had some business to take care of in Nampa, Idaho, so we sauntered up that way from Great Basin National Park. A lot of people think full-time RVing is one long vacation. We can give you a list of ways it isn’t, but we will admit we find fun wherever and whenever we can.

We spent almost two weeks in and around Nampa, which is near Boise. We ate and hiked and… well… took care of business.

Boise has an amazing, volunteer-maintained hiking and bicycling trail system, but specifics were hard to nail down. After a quick e-mail exchange with someone affiliated with the Ridge to Rivers Trail System, Ellen found the Polecat Gulch trail, a great, scenic hike on the “leash required” list. What a great idea — doggie lovers can run their dogs on the leash-less trails all they want and those of us who are allergic can opt for the “restricted” trails. Rules for everyone are clearly posted:

We wandered the trail, passing someone’s private farm (one of the achievements in creating this system was getting permission from various property owners), and gradually climbing the hills:

We stepped over all kinds of bugs…

…which Ellen had to photograph from every angle (of course):

We enjoyed this trail so much we returned on another day and hiked a different branch of it. We stopped to smell the stunning Sagebrush Mariposa Lilies that dotted the path…

…and wake this poor grasshopper from his nap in the lily:

From the ridge, Boise spread out beneath us:

More critters and creatures awaited us on our return, like this racer…

…and this bright green grasshopper:

Sometimes it’s the little things in life, like a little green grasshopper, that make us appreciate all the amazing things — especially the tiny ones — that make up this amazing planet called Earth.

  1. I agree with you. Taking the time to appreciate the little things in lie is so important.
